They can revive Gypsy ever year and I wouldn't care. With shows like Cry Baby and Grease on Broadway, I'm going to take all the truly great musical theatre I can get!
I liked Peter's interpration of Mama Rose and I like LuPone's just as much. However, I think this revival of Gypsy has powerhouse acting all around and is, overall, a better production.

One of the things I found most exciting about Patti's Tony performance of ECUR was how well she photographed. Up close, her wild, determined face perfectly conveyed Rose's deranged obsession. And Benanti was also great - she looked confused and terrified.
This deserves to be taped and broadcast.
And I'd love to see Patti as MEDEA.

So my bro called me last night, asking what I was doing.
ME:
I'm watching the Tonys.
HE:
*groan*
Why aren't you watching the Celtics? They haven't won a championship since 1986.
ME:
Yeah, well, Patti LuPone hasn't won a Tony since 1980.
HE:
Who?
ME:
You know, Corky's mother. (We used to love LIFE GOES ON as kids.)
HE:
Oh. Well, I don't think people are going to be rioting the streets if she wins.
ME:
Maybe not. But the BWW boards will be one big giant meltdown if she loses.
ME:
Whatever. Commercial's over. Gotta go.

Broadwayjules... we should meet for coffeee and calmly talk this out.
I'm afraid if we resolve your "different Patti view" on the BWW boards, I might reach into the computer and shove Stew's funny glasses up your bum.
I can't stand ignorant morons sometimes.
Yes, that includes you Roscoe. Her singing is like "yelling" ?? LOL
you must have not seen WICKED, RENT, or SPRING AWAKENING ?

Dude, it's just an opinion. Yeah. Her singing sounds like yelling. Except when it doesn't. It didn't when I saw SWEENEY TODD, and it didn't last night.
Get a grip.

Of course it's just an opinion. But all you do is come on here when there's a SUNDAY thread, so you can bash it.
Try commenting on other things too.

I did comment on other things. I do comment on other things. I commented on Patti, for example. Does that count as another thing?
Get a grip.

Don't be so grumpy, Mr. Grumpy
SUNDAY was absolutely brilliant. Patti was amazing. End of story.

SUNDAY is a good play in a really dreadfully bad production.
Ms. Lupone was quite good on last night's Tonys.
End of story, my opinions part of it at least.

Did you even see GYPSY?
As I say... do not judge a show (or performer) until you see the show.

Posted: 6/16/08 at 2:28pmFrankly, Kelli O'Hara's "A Wonderful Guy" rendition won me over and moved me more than Patti LuPone's belting in "Everything's Coming Up Roses."

I did not see Ms. Lupone in GYPSY. I never said I had seen Ms. Lupne's performance in GYPSY.
The only judgments I have passed on her performance have come from having seen assorted clips which confirmed my worst suspicions about her performance.
I saw her performance on the Tonys last night, which was, as I have posted above, most impressive.
Goodness, you Patti fans are a fierce lot.

""SUNDAY was absolutely brilliant. Patti was amazing. End of story. ""
See, this isn't a discussion, this is telling someone they're wrong. Roscoe was giving an OPINION...they even said Sunday was a good play they just didn't care for the production and that Patti was good last night, seeing your side and giving an opinion. I can't stand the "any differing view from my own is wrong" mentality.
