This seems disrespectful given her career. They just dimmed them all for Maggie Smith

It's not disrespectful at all. The theatre she performed her Tony Award winning performance in is dimming Its lights for her. That is a clear sign of respect.

Why is this always a complaint every time a dimming ceremony happens. If I were the owner of a theatre, I'd quit dimming the lights altogether at this point. Social media doesn't need to erupt in a blaze of typical internet anger over these perceived slights evey time a theatre dimming is announced. It must be tiresome for those in charge.
