I dont think that directors get the kind of credit that they deserve. Usually if you like a show, it is largely because of the director. Which are your favorite broadway directors?
Mine are:
Joe Mantella- his direction of TAKE ME OUT was wonderful. But it is upsetting that so many reviewers say that he cant direct musicals. I think he forte is musicals. His work on WICKED was great and MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE was the best drection i am ever seen. Made me cry.
Halod Prince- what can i say. He is a genious and what ever he puts his hands on turns golden.

I think Harold is probably the greatest director in B'way history. I also like Sam Mendes and David Leveaux.

I agree that directors do not get the recognition that they deserve. I know that there is a Tony category...but without directors, even amazing actors don't know where to go all the time. It is the actor who performs the character each night, but without a director, the steps toward finding that character are empty.

oops I totally misspelled their names
note to myself: proof read b4 you send.
I really don't know too many of his works, but I was INCREDIBLY impressed with David Leveaux's work on Nine. He really brought such an amazing style to the piece, and really brought something new to Broadway. I personally think that he was robbed of the Tony.
Otherwise, Hal Prince is pure genius, to repeat what someone else said and Joe Mantello is a recent favorite of mine.
