is it coming to Broadway????anytime soon?
Has it opened on the WE yet?
no clue...the theatre.com was vauge on the details just that it has the original music from the movie
I don't think it has... maybe, I dunno, but I don't think so. And something tells me that this will stay in the WE...
damn...i really like Dirty Dancing but if they do it somewhat simalar too Movin' Out then i dont know
I think it's got marketability but I don't think, substance wise, the show will be all that great.
the show's opening Sept/Oct I believe. You guys want Mack & Mabel and Sunday In The Park With George more than DIrty Dancing!
I would KILL for Mack and Mabel!
I'd be floored if it came to us! And Sunday, as well
DIRTY DANCING isn't really a musical. It's the film script put on stage. The songs are sung by "band singers" and the music occurs exactly where it appears in the movie. Still, it's proven to be enormously popular in Australia (where it was created) with fans of the film cheering all the familiar lines of dialogue and drooling over Josef Brown, the Aussie dancer who'll be repeating the role of Johnny in the West End.
yea i know i think thats y it may work...its a NEW kind of musical and the movie has some pretty good music
hi there
dirty dancing starts previews here in london in sept and opens october. Its playing at the aldwich theatre which was untill recently the home of Fame the musical.Josef brown is to return as the lead as he did in australia but its unclear who will play the female lead(though it is been said that neighbours tv star kym valentine will reprise the role she played in australia as her show neigbours is huge here).
Tickets for the show are selling so fast that reports said they over took the Wicked sales here in london(the first 2 months of DD sold out straight away)
ps The Mack and Mabel production here with David Soul is awfull
Who's directing DIRTY DANCING? I can't seem to find any info anywhere.
TT
they havent announced yet there staying very quiet on all fronts with this show for some reasson
I doubt Mack and Mabel is awful (though I haven't seen your production). The score is amazing, even being played on a small scale and the songs are brilliant. I love John Doyle and his work, so I figure I'd like it
I heard that DIRTY DANCING in Australia was horrendous...please stay far away.
I'll take SUNDAY and MACK.
I'm very excited about Mack and Mabel, less so about Sunday because I find that it's a show that I ADMIRE more than I LOVE.
Buuuuut, all of that aside, I'll take 'em both!
dirty dancing issnt awfull its actually quite good and was very well recieved in australia.
Mack and Mabel has a great score i just meant the production stinks. To say its cheap is an understatement and why they have put David(i was only good in jerry springer coz i diddnt have to sing)soul in is beyond me.
Hes also such an arse ,on the uk tour of the show he got egged by some fans coz he wouldnt talk ,sign autographes or even look at them and when he did he was really rude.

I kinda hope this comes to North America only cos i thought it would work years ago but did think they would develop songs for the other characters, not just juke box AGAIN!
In an interview I read recently both Las Vegas and Broadway were mentioned for 2007. I understand that the director for London will be the originator.

Here in Germany its really successful, but that changes not the fact, that most people and critics say, that its really not worth the money. The movie on stage, nearly an one-to-one transfer, shall be incredibly boring. And the music coming mostly from CD is also not really satisfying.
Compare the runs of Fame in London and on Broadway. That will indicate how well DD will do! London seems to lap up this kind of trash. I understand it is heading towards the all time record for advance sales.

Does a live band play all the music? (with either an onstage band of singers singing the songs or the cast)...or is any of it pre-recorded.
none of the musica is pre recordeed from what i can tell
and as for here in london us lapping up trash dont talk rubbish ,Fame ran for a long time coz the show was fun cheap and chearfull and got lots of young people intrested in theatre or been on stage. Its a feel good show and nothing more ,and in theatre for every barefoot or piazza you need a fame or a footloose to keep all audiences intrested and london knows that.I mean we arent the country what sinks stupid amounts of money in to DOTV ,lestat, dracula, seusiccal etc
this comes from someone who likes Footloose...
Also- notice how DOTV, Dracula, Seussical et al closed very fast here. We didn't "lap it up"
