Last night, me and my parents went to see DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, and we were thoroughly unimpressed.

I got the CD when it first came out, and I liked some of the songs, but it didn't do much for me. I thought I'd like it a lot better when I actually saw the show, but I was wrong.

For me, the opening number usually sets the tone for the rest of the show, and "The Only Game in Town" was sooooo boring! Tom Hewitt added no pizzazz to it- it was just very blah... but I didn't get discouraged... I was hoping the show would get better... but it didn't... it just kept going downhill from there. By the end of the first act, I was struggling to stay awake. All of the actors were overacting BIG TIME!!! I know they didn't believe in their characters because I didn't. They were trying to be funny, and it didn't work. I think a lot of the lines would have gotten a bigger laugh had they not been stressing them.

Very surprised Butz won a Tony for that. I was very, very, very depressed about the whole thing. I had high expectations because I had heard such great things about the show and about Butz, and it turned out to be a waste of my time.

Well, I don't think it necessarily sucks. I think it would benefit from some better staging and a little more energy on everyone's part.

I LOVE this musical, but I must agree with you on one point.....the new opening number is very mediocre (at best!), and I much prefer "Give Them What They Want" over the new one.

**still crying over not seeing NLB in LA**
