This is my first review!!!
I had never seen this show before but it was AMAZING!!!!
The whole show was great but Norbert was in the stratasphere!! Norbert -He had so much panache and charisma and comic timing like the pro he has been called. His performance felt so fresh that you could never tell that he has been playing the role for so long, it felt like it was his opening night and he gave all of the energy that was in him. The scene about "Ruprecht" nearly brought down the house along with Great Big Stuff!
-Tom Hewitt was also really great and he had the accent down perfectly and worked really well with Norbert...he also has a great singing voice.
-Laura MArie Duncan was really good as Christine and had a great voice also to boot and was really cute. She had the perfect amount of quirk, sass and charm.
-Hollis Resnik and Drew Mcvety were great comic releif as Muriel and Andre. If I had to put a weak link in this great cast it would be Jennifer Foote as Jolene. She is not "bad " by any means but could do so much more with the role and felt like she was holding back. The ensemble was great!
-The sets were very clever how the outside and inside were depicted and were very sparkly!
All in all it was a terrific show with witty writing and a great score! I would love to see it again.
So If You get the chance go see this tour if it is in a city near you.. Especially if you get to see Norbert's Amazing performance!!!!!

aw
I heart Jenifer Foote. We used to do community shows together yesrs ago and she is the cutest. I was hoping she would rock it.
Then again I don't know what the character of Jolene does, but I've always known Jen to be a dancer, dancer, dancer. I don't think I've even heard her sing.

I was there too this evening and having seen the show a number of times, was very interested in how the road show is going. First and foremost, Norbert was his usual awesome self. 'nuff said. Second, Tom Hewitt was terrific and such a great voice! Got to really hear some of the clever musical passages from Mr Y in his performance. Lithgow's comedy was better and Pryce's take good as well, but Hewitt brought a different feel to it with his strong, lyrical voice.
The rest of the cast was very strong and i really had a great time.
I HATED the opening number. I think the original is much better, has that sneaky, sly feel to it, and conveys pretty much the same thing as the replacement song. Bummed me out.
Anyone know when Norbert's last stop is on the tour. The way I see it, with the Broadway company closing, and him off doing a movie, whatever city he ends his 'tour' of duty will most likely be his final farewell to Freddy.

I also agree that I hated the opening number having heard the original on the soundtrack.. this opening was slow but the show was amazing from then on!

Thank you for the review
I sure wish it well... especially since the show is closing in NYC.

Ok.....well...so much for the Norbert experience. HE WAS OUT LAST NIGHT!!! I cannot begin to express how disappointed I was. I guess I'll have to try again in my neck of the woods-the OC. This was the first and only performance in the tour that he has missed so far!
His u/s did a good job...he used much of the same blocking and funny mannerisms as Norbert. and his voice was good. Dirty Rotten Number fell short, but...all in all a cast worth seeing. There seemed to be sound issues last night, and it was difficult to hear at times, but since I know the cast recording by heart, I could follow (my friends had a hard time). Oh well...it was still a night out with the girls w/o the kids. Just wished it could have been with Norbert!

I saw it last night as well, and almost left when I found out that Norbert would not be there. According to my friend in the pit, it was the first time Norbert had not been there in the LA short run.
His understudy did a fine job, and had a beautiful voice. He seemed to mimic Norbert almost to a T. But alas, Norbert has a special something that sets him apart.
My friend said that while the US was good, Norbert was just freaking amazing.
Tom Hewitt was great, and the rest of the cast was quite strong. I had a good time regardless, but the main reason I even wanted to go was Norbert.
Alas.

I agree....Norbert definitely has that extra "ummmph".
I was wondering if this was the understudy's first performance in the role. I heard that last night was Norbert's first missed show since the tour began. If this is the case, the u/s should get a lot of credit...he has HUGE shoes to fill, and he did a decent job.
If you are in the LA/OC area, go support this wonderful show..it makes for a fun night of theater!
