Ok so I saw the show last night... Lithgow - miscast. Score - boring (the "big" rap song totally unnecessary). Book - dreadful and every joke sounds like it was inserted into the script to add laughs. Sitcom writers can't always write for theatre... why don't producers realize that!
On the other hand, Norbert was wonderful (I wish they gave him a real song cause I wanted to hear his sing, but I guess they couldn't show up Lithgow (whos ballad in act 2 should be burned) - And I love Joanna Gleason (wish she had more to do) - and congrats to Joe Cassidy second week of previews and in for a huge role (probably without a lot of rehearsal!!!

Posted: 2/9/05 at 11:22amAs I expected, there are going to be some people (a minority) who dislike the show. But people's tastes are different. Our reviews are statements of opinion, not fact after all. I thought the jokes were hilarious, as did most of the people around me, but no show can please everyone. I wasn't crazy about The Producers for example.

The show is great, go see it... A minority won't like it I'm sure, as with all shows. I've seen quite a few lately, this is the pick of the litter.
Saw Modern Orthodox last night - was funny! Cute, and funny...

Wow...maybe Mr. Lithgow was having an off night, because I saw him down in SD and he was just perfect for the role. And our audience, myself included was laughing our a$$es off. Funny is funny, in any form. The score I thought was clever, sly and sexy. Everyone was terrific. I still highly recommend it.
Just go, laugh and enjoy!

Just saw the matinee performance - this show is hilarious, and the people I was with (veteran theater-goers all) were equally impressed. This is - in the best sense possible - a throwback to the great fun musical comedies of the the 60's and 70's.
