Discounts in the dead of winter#0

Hey guys...I'd like to take a trip to Broadway to see a show (hopefully Wicked, or even LSOH) and I was wondering is the best time to go during the dead of winter? I assume tourists are few and far between in Jan and Feb. Could I expect to see web discounts on websites like broadwaybox and theatremania for this time? I know Wicked is having a discount now but unfortunately I cannot make it to NYC until after Christmas. Also...the most important question...will the leads be there or do they tend to take time off in the winter? Thanks a bunch!

There are considerable discounts found for shows that are playing in January-March. The League of NY Theaters puts out a coupon book with discounts for most shows. The problem is that NY is prone to winter weather and you may have trouble with your flights if there's a snow storm. A word of advice: Don't book shows for your first two nights in NYC. Pick up those tickets when you're here. That way, if you have trouble making your connections, you won't forfeit the tickets. And believe me, you'll have no trouble picking up tickets an hour before curtain at that time of the year. Just don't expect to get seats for HAIRSPRAY or THE PRODUCERS--book those shows in advance for your third or fourth night.

Enjoy!

I've been wondering this. I'm returning to NY from December 29 to January 5th. I don't care if there's a delay on the 5th, but I'm a bit worried about coming in on the 29th. I'd like to have a ticket purchased for the 29th, but the delays are entirely possible. At that time of year, is it possible to wait until that evening to get a decent ticket? A decent ticket for me would be a seat in the first eight rows of the center orchestra.

The dead of winter is the very best time to get good seats & good discounts. The only warning I would give is that by January there will be a lot of bodies lying around. The 1st Sunday in January is always a Bloody Sunday for shows.

Thanks for all the tips guys. So can I expect Idina and Kristen & Hunter and Kerry to be in their roles during this time barring any sickness or emergency, of course? Are vacas usually taken by huge leads during this slow time? I really want to make sure I see both Idina and Kristen when I see Wicked.

DD11, in all honsety this is going to be the worst winter in memory for early closings, there will be some shocks on this board unless box office picks up and fast for several favorites.

When do discounts codes start appearing for January? They all end in Dec. now. I'm planning on being there the 1st week of January and would like to get as much as I can in advance. I don't fancy standing in the TKTS line for a couple of hours every day in January.

Try Broadway Box. They keep track of discounts for every show.

I'm sorry, but I can't stop thinking of Patricia Neal gushing, "ROSES....in the dead of winter!" in THE HOMECOMING. Anyone else remember?
