umm... well i absolutely hated the singing. sorry, but i just couldn't take it seriously. at all! i was laughing my socks off though because it was so ridiculous.

Never equate "You Can't Stop the Beat" to a dumb Disney movie song. EVER.

And it's Disney channel, with a bunch of wannabe singers who need synthesizers to sound half decent.

Sorry. I didnt mean to. I love You Cant Stop The Beat, it just SOUNDS like the beat kinda similar. The song is subpar compared to Hairspray's tremendous finale.

They really needed to fix the sound in status quoe the ensamble was so much lower it was just like it was background music to the scene

The song Gabriella sang on the stairs (with her wonderful little "interprative dancing") reminded me of Notice Me Horton from Seussical.

I'm watching now, just put it on, totally didn't realize I was watching the "karaoke" version until I came to this thread. I just though it was Disney being random and necessary. I keep thinking what kind of crazy callbacks are those, where there are only four people who sing completely different songs in pairs?

I must say the karaoke version really emphasizes the dreadful lyrics... heh.

Yeah, the lyrics ARE cheesey, the singing ISN'T that...great.
But, it's a start. Maybe the public is getting interested in musicals again? Let's just be happy that musical movies are still getting made, even though they barely come along anymore.
It was funny though. Anyone notice how the plot *kinda* stole itself from "Grease". Like good girl, bad boy meet on vacation, end up at same school, end up changing...blah blah lovey dooby...
Did anyone else notice the Sondheim reference? Atleast they *kinda* appreciate the genre.

i wasn't too fond of the voices of sharpay, troy (although i've definately heard A LOT worse), nor gabriella. I thought Ryan was amazing -singing wise. He's someone I would love to work with (but probably never will...) The movie overall was very cheesey and the script probably hard to work with to make it less cheesey. But its disney channel- not much more you can expect.

Funfact: Diana DeGarmo auditioned for the lead female.

So i guess the fact that the whole cast was OVER-touched vocally doesnt make Christy Romano (who is vocally weak,yes but never THAT touched up in most recordings and on tv) look any better? And, I love Ashley Tisdale (sharpay) but i think it's scary how she is 20, yet looks AND sounds like she is 15.

This movie did really well...Ratings for this past weekend..


1. Movie: "High School Musical" (Friday, 8 p.m.), Disney, 4.97 million homes, 7.73 million viewers.

2. Movie: "High School Musical" (Saturday, 8 p.m.), Disney, 4.11 million homes, 6.12 million viewers.

7. Movie: "High School Musical" (Sunday, 8 p.m.), Disney, 3.67 million homes, 4.86 million viewers.


I think, as cheesy as it is, it had a 'important' message or value to it, that not many teen/teen/kid stuff has anymore. And that's why it did so well, and people enjoyed it.
