First the Esmeralda was only a little known in Germany, but she wasn't a popstar and isn't still. She is called Judy Weiß and it's true that the reviews weren't really good, but she played the role a year and didn't disappeared.
I loved the show, but it's true that some scenes were boring to look at, but other scenes like the inner part of the cathedral were great.
Greatings from Germany. re: Disney's Future Plans

How strange. I remember it being big news when I was there. Even my roommates in Lüneburg were talking about her disappearance.

Chitty is NOT Disney - has never been and never will be. Please, for the love, stop saying that either the show or the movie is in any way connected to Disney. Yes, it has a Sherman Brothers score, but they wrote it after they split from Disney following Walt's death, etc.

In the Disney Annual Report, they mention plans for Mary Poppins, Tarzan, and The Little Mermaid to come to Broadway. They also mention Spellbound, which was an Oscar-winning documentary. Eisner in his little report even mentions the possibility of the Muppets coming to Broadway, which I think would be great.

I know a lot of you are annoyed by Disney or have some deep hatred for the company, but as someone who has been a fan since birth, I think they do some great things. I'm sorry if many/most of you on this board feel differently. re: Disney's Future Plans

Spellbound? Doesn't seem a smart move with Putnam Spelling Bee doing so well...

I thought Disney released the CHITTY film on VHS? I know it was MGM - but I thought Disney still distributed it to video...

Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, the movie and the stage musical, is mainly produced by the Broccoli family who are also the producers of the James Bond movies. CHITTY, an original children's book in England, was written by Ian Fleming, the same Brit author who wrote about the exploits of 007. Updated On: 2/18/05 at 06:52 PM

I went on Amazon and looked up all the Chitty VHS and DVD versions I could find, and they all said MGM/Ua Studios. I don't remember ever seeing this video distributed through Disney, but if so, then I will humbly correct myself. However, that doesn't mean Disney has any connections to the movie other than the fact that they distributed it to get a few more bucks. re: Disney's Future Plans

Does anyone know if On the Record will continue the tour dates its already published? Also did anyone ever see the Fantasmic show at MGM? It was quite good, but also quite a spectacle. I remember the plot line being rather corny, but it was one of the best montage of Disney Songs I have seen (I have not yet seen On the Record and don't know it it is at all similar, other than the Disney montage theme)

FANTASMIC is great in that it does tie in the Disney songs very well. It's a gigantic battle between Mickey and his Dreams versus famous Disney villains. Great entertainment. Visionary experiences you can't get anywhere else!

However, yes, its a large spectacle. I'd like to see it as a film.

I could see it working as a film as well. It was by far the best thing I have ever seen at a theme park.

She did the reading - and stated she was very interested, but no casting is confirmed.

I think it was unique the way they staged The Little Mermaid show in Disney Sea in Tokyo. I haven't seen it but saw a small snippet on the Travel Channel. Even though the show is only like 15 minutes, it's unique how the people hang from the ceiling to make it look like they're floating under the sea.

I've said it before, Mulan would be an excellent Broadway show, they could really focus on Chinese culture.

Fantasmic is an amazing spectacle. When I went to Disney (about a month after it opened, I saw it three times). I have the CD too...

*runs off to listen to Fantasmic CD, seeing if its as good as I remember*

I just recently saw the Aladdin musical at California Adventure and I do have to say of course loads of changes would need to be made, the show runs at like 45 minutes, but it made me think that I really could see Aladdin working on broadway. See, I remember seeing B&TB and loooving it when I was young and I recently saw TLK and loved it, but the problem with both of these is that I have watched both movies soo many times if the production isn't amazing I don't really wanna see it, I mean I have the entire script memorized, plus various shows at Disney world. I went once to both, with really no plans to revisit again. But the comedy could make Aladdin work. They had a Genie using all these great modern jokes, with references to Desperate Housewives, American Idol, etc. It was realy hysterical. My first thought was could you imagine if they got Robin to do it on Broadway? But really anyone very funny or who could perhaps do some improving or update lots of Genie jokes could make Aladdin worth seeing slightly for material as well as just production.

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
