I'm bumping this thread for two reasons. First because it seems Disney has many projects in the works. Alan Menken confirmed that "Aladdin" and "Der Glöckner von Notre Dame" are already in the works. "Newsies" is also has a reading or workshop coming.

"Why not Snow White or Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Esmeralda or Meg?

The other reason is that I agree with this poster on one thing. Disneyworld should have expanded Fantasyland for Snow White's Cottage and have the park guests visit her and the Dwarfs.

DisneylandMagicMan,
This is all very true. I've heard the same thing about Huchback, that it's too dark and Schwartz won't budge from the darker take (which I admire), but you must remember, that also had a very successful theme park show at MGM Studios (Now, Hollywood Studios).

And Dumbo, is getting his own theme park show with the expansion of Fantasyland in Disney World. They're building a huge air conditioned tent around the Dumbo ride, and are centering the show all around it. I'm sure it will be very popular aswell.

MOST shows in theme parks are very popular. I can't think of any at Disney that were just disasters. People wanna get off their feet and rest, they go to a show. There are A LOT of people at the parks, so there will be A LOT of people in the audience. No matter what the show is.

And don't forget, Disney did do Aida.

I really don't see them bringing NEWSIES to Broadway. They'll take it to the Papermill, and MAYBE on tour or Off-Broadway. But it's just not a Broadway show. Like, how they made Geppetto into a show. It started off at a college, then regional theatres, now it's a huge community theatre thing. Same with High School Musical. They didn't have intentions to bring that to Broadway (thank god). So, Disney is never focused with JUST Broadway when they do a show. They also have a ton of musicals for kids to perform like The Jungle Book, The Aristocats, 101 Dalmatians, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Aladdin, Mulan, Alice in Wonderland...all of these are already stage adaptions. They're just written for children.
