I suppose that the nice thing about not seeing theatre in NYC is that you can subscribe to a season and be guaranteed to see all the traveling tours coming through. I subscribe to the Pantages, the Ahmanson, Mark Taper, Geffen Playhouse, Reprise!, the Pasadena Playhouse, and have started to see everything at the Kirk Douglas here in Los Angeles. I realize that there are discount sites and stuff, but I guess I don't mind supporting the arts and like the theatre to just send me all the tickets in one shot.
When I get to travel to NYC I like to have purchased my tickets in advance and you just don't get discounts doing that. Who wants to spend every morning standing in line at TKTS when you've traveled so far to experience NYC?? And then who knows what shows will be available?? The theatres know that they've got travelers by the neck and the basic laws of supply and demand apply. If people stopped paying....the prices would go down.

I agree with DezBryner.

It's all supply and demand. People pay hundreds of dollars, tickets cost hundreds of dollars. It's as simple as that.
