Do you think Chitty is going to do good on its new production on Broadway?
I think if they play their cards right with publicity it will do WELL.

Very well if they do it right and most importantly cast correctly. Good family entertainment and great for nostalgia buffs.
I loved that movie so much when I was a little girl, so I really hope it does well. We shall see...
However...not a fan of Michael Ball as the lead.
It'll be interesting to say the least, here's hoping there is some great casting and insightful direction
Are you kidding? A family show with a flying car on stage? It'll be a hit.
Well, I saw the movie many times when I was younger and really liked it, but I'm not sure how it would do on Broadway. Although I have to say the title isn't much for advertising on subconscious levels, with a name that sounds like 'SH*Tty.'
I saw the musical in London several times, and enjoyed it very much. I thought Michael Ball did an excellent job as Caractacus, and I hope he will be able to reprise his role on Broadway.
I think the show will do very well on Broadway, both for the children of today for whom the flying car will be a draw, and for the children of yesterday who have fond memories of the film.
I would love to see Michael Ball return when Chitty flies in NYC. There was a certain magic with the original cast, especially between Michael and Anton Rogers who I would also like to see reprise his role. But really the car is the star.
Ow, my frickin' eyes. That thread title.

There's talk of Charlotte Church for the role of Truly Scrumptious
Isn't Charlotte Church a little young for the role? I seem to remember her being about 12 when I was 13, I'm now 18. I could be wrong. But I don't really want to see an 18-20 in love with Micheal Ball. Oh well, I loved the movie and hope that it will at least get some nice recognition.

I know that new face cream I'm using promised a younger look but now I'm going back and buy the store out! ![]()

Emma Williams was 18 when she orginated the role of Truly in the West End and Michael Ball was 39...it worked, they had great chemistry, reprised recently in Sunset Boulevard in Cork.
Having said that, I'm not excited at the prospect of Charlotte Church in the role.
I personally am not excited for it, but I think it will do well.
As for doing "good", I guess that depends on the percentage of "do-gooders" in the cast
I predict it will be next year's WICKED. Or next year's BOMBAY DREAMS...
I'm not looking forward to it at all. I was never a fan of the movie (but I DO love the music box number)...I'd certainly want to play the child catcher if it was an option, though...hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe.......

It is so nice to see you back. Here's hoping CCBB does well on this side of the pond
I think it has the potential to have the financial success of Wicked due to its family friendliness, but I doubt it will be THE show of the year. Nor do I think this board will have to endure thousands of Chitty posts.

They could have a GREAT publicity campaign if they cast Micheal Jackson as The Childcatcher. MANY ty-ins ya know......
Oh you guys are just so smart and funny! "next year's wicked"...could be. "Michael Jackson as the child catcher...LOLLY POP! Here kiddie winkies!" Phanty, we would have to hire Tanya Harding to break his knees!
The critics will have a ball with a show that rhymes with S**TTY if it bombs. Truly will truly be "toot sweet". (...sorry, I'm a huge fan of Chitty!!), my little Chuchie Woochie Faces grew up with Cracticus Potts!
I think it's simply MAH-VAH-LOS that it's coming to NY! Michael Ball should be fine...finally getting him to NY!
As far as publicity...Don't think it will need too much. I'm just hoping the staging and music is top notch, more than the casting. AND above all else...let's not compare it to the movie or book or whatever and discet it to death like WICKED.
Give it up for Chitty! :)
