In case anyone cares, I believe "The Ten Commandments"(the French version) was written by a different composer than Romeo et Juliette and the French Gone with the Wind. I still don't understand the whole "let's import a musical but change all the songs" -- it's not like the rights to the book were tied up or something!
If you want to read a hilarious and deliciously vicious review of the original london production read:
Rex Reed's PEOPLE ARE CRAZY HERE
He devotes one chapter to the muscial that will have you peeing in your pants.
It just flat out sucks that Lesley Ann Warren has had such terrible luck with her Broadway projects. I'm still hoping she'll find something that will be a big success for her BW-wise.
It'd be a thrill to see her get another fantastic movie role and finally snag herself an Oscar, too.
Oh! If this ever came to Broadway again, not saying it will or anything, but something came to my head.
Laura Benanti as Scarlett.
I kind of like the Harold Rome GWTW musical. It's not particularly "good" but the score is kind of over the top 70s schmaltz and there are a few really well written character songs.
That production in Dallas played at the Dallas Summer Musicals (Fair Park Music Hall).
I believe that in "Not Since Carrie" Mandelbaum said it was a pretty good show, but the timing was way off. Am I remembering wrong?
I'd love to have seen it!
June Ritchie who played Scarlett in London was supposedly superb.
I actually think this is the kind of show Seth needs to do for the BCEFA benefit. What would be more fun than seeing Broadway stars in these parts?
