Does anyone know how to make an Audrey II?

I want to make an Audrey II for my friend's birthday (homemade gifts are so much better than storebought) and I have no idea how to go about making one. I want it to resemble the one from the movie as much as possible. I just need an idea on how to start it. Your help is great appreciated.

when we did our production of it, there was a kit you could order to make the puppets... but it was expensive and it had pieces for all four puppets...so.. i dont know..
