Hi,
I was curious to hear if anyone has caught the revival of "Hello Dolly" with Nancy Opel in DC yet.
If you have, what did you think?

I'll be seeing it after Easter.
I saw it this weekend. Nancy Opel makes a wonderful Dolly--she sings it thrillingly and plays it with a deep longing and a loneliness that infuse the comedy with a surprising depth.
The production is cute, very scaled down, but the dancing is spectacular. The cast is very good, particularly the Barnaby and Minnie Fay.
Thanks for the report. My subscription is for the end of March. I was looking forward to it,but after reading what you wrote, I' m eager to see Nancy Opel do it. I've always admired her work.
Any chance they put either of the two Merman songs in?

I saw "Dolly" on Saturday night. Having seen Carol Channing in a revival tour in the early 1980's, this is a musical that I adore. I really enjoyed the production. As noted earlier, it is "stripped down" - but they make very creative use of the minimal sets and props. I've never seen Nancy Opel in a production, but I was really impressed - acting and singing was wonderful, and she did a great job of capturing Dolly's "essence." Nancy did seem to move stiffly, and, at times, she appeared to be limping through her not-so-demanding dance steps. In short, it's a great show that's in a historic venue - where else can you see the gun that killed Lincoln at intermission?
