DON'T GIVE UP ON BATMAN
There have been many reasons to suggest that Steinman has abandoned this project; the break-up with Sonenberg; the no-longer distraction with Meat Loaf and now advent of Bat Out of Hell 3; the mistaken failure of Dance of the Vampires; the sporadic interest of Warner Bros. and their association with Manny Azenberg; the various projects of Tim Burton, and Batman is not the only of his that has gone under; and the blackened reputation of Steinman in New York (The Dream Engine, Whistle Down the Wind and Dance of the Vampires). But there are also reasons as to why this should still be done; Batman is the final chance for Jim to shine and the story is so appropriate and full of dark characters; Bat Out of Hell 3 is the final grand moment with Meat Loaf, and he needs one for the theatre, or something to assure him the existence there he's needed; Spiderman the Musical is pathetic, because there are no real characters or reasons to make this a musical plot, and Batman is just MUSICAL altogether; it's the most Steinmanian culmination since Tanz. Jim has GOT to do this. We can not let him surrender or allow ourselves to believe it's over
I can't stop thinking about it. I have all of the four films, and will no doubt be seeing the multitudes of sequels, and the first one is (to me) one of the top one-hundred films of all time and the ultimate theatrical inheritance in the gothic world. Batman is screaming for thundering arias, dark gothic and thundering arias, Joker would be a musical legend and the greatest villain to hit the theatre, Kim Basinger's role will be awesome, and the Gotham citizens will be black-and-white like the footages of 30s Berlin. Robin and Catwoman have to go, IT HAS TO BE A MUSICAL OF THE FIRST FILM (because it's the only one worth watching), and it could be sensational. Imagine the numbers for the Berliner Gothams, imagine the murder of his parents (a black and white scene with coloured blood on the window), the nightmarish scenes at the start, the surrounding world's varied opinions of Batman, the idea he's not a hero with ridiculous powers, but just a normal and nocturnal crime fighter. It can be so potentially awesome. Every role would be a treat. The Ensemble, like I said, would be vivid and frightening. The Joker and his goons would be insane. Batman would be darkly operatic and admirable, like an ancient leader, and the heroine would have brave connotations. I can imagine songs in the style of The Dream Engine - Who Needs the Young and Mother River Song - great Brechtian moments, and uplifting choral sequences like Garbo's Night of the Soul
Like they say, where there's a will, there's a way, and Jim CAN make this happen
Seriously
