Again, I'm sick of the Donna bashing. Unless you know her personally, then you can't say what has made her ill. Unless you were involved in the production of "Wonderful Town," when Donna was in it, and you happen to know what went down at that theatre, then please enlighten us. I would also like to point out that Phyills Newman came out to support Donna at "Passion" in Concert, and had there been bad blood between the two, I don't think she would have done so. If you were disappointed to miss her in "Wonderful Town," or any other show, it's time you get over it. She is out of "Wonderful Town" now.
Anyway, back on topic, I am very excited about this film now that Donna Murphy is in it. I'm not much of a fan of Hugh Jackman's, although he is a very gracious performer.

Posted: 11/22/04 at 8:25pmI wouldn't say it's bashing so much as beginning to sound like a broken record. And this board thinks Wicked fans are obnoxious.

To Ruth Sherwood:
An attitude like yours is uncalled for when someone states a fact. As someone else said earlier in this thread, it's a fact that Donna Murphy missed numerous performances while in "Wonderful Town." You're right, we don't know why she missed, but you don't either. I think Donna is a wonderful talent, but hey, she stood many people up. (I was fortunate enough to be there when she did show up.) No one is saying that Donna called out to sit at home and watch Season One of "Friends" on DVD. People are just saying she was out, she missed, she wasn't there -- period. It's a fact. Donna wasn't the only one to suffer. Ticket holders suffered as well. Expect more light-hearted jokes about her excessive no-shows. So, if anyone needs to get over anything, it's you.
Now, back to Wicked...

Posted: 11/22/04 at 8:45pmI would just like to say that I know why Donna Murphy missed those last four weeks of Wonderful Town. I have been told this information by two people, the son of a member of the cast of Wonderful Town, and the other has worked with Donna Murphy on several things. I am not allowed to state the actual reason, but I can say that it was not something that she could have prevented. It wasn't her choice, and no fault of hers. So stop complaining about her absences. Posted: 11/22/04 at 8:48pmI know she missed many performances, and yes, now we all know that she was out for unpreventable reasons. As for suffering, I too had to suffer through Linda M.'s performance, but I do not automatically assume that Donna wanted to miss a performance, or that she was being a diva and decided to stay home for no reason. Ms. Murphy has done the suffering. She was very ill. If you choose not to believe her when she says that, then it is your problem and you NEED to move on. I don't understand why some posters, who claim to know about the Theatre feel the need to make jokes at the expense of a performer, who has been ill. If you feel the need because you missed her in whatever show she was in, again, you NEED to move on.

Posted: 11/22/04 at 8:50pmWhat, is Donna making people sign that they won't talk? That's almost comical. I don't understand why you would post that and expect us to believe it. Your non-confirming statment won't make people stop making light-hearted jokes.

tvboy,
i'm not allowed to tell because i don't know if the people who told me want me to say anything. i heard from Officer Lonigan's son, who goes to my school. And one of my drama teachers who has worked with her. If you don't believe me fine.

Posted: 11/22/04 at 8:54pmAs I stated, I saw her in the show and very much enjoyed her performance. I'm just glad I was there a night she showed up.

Posted: 11/22/04 at 8:55pmOkay, well i'm glad that you enjoyed it. I hate arguing about this because I don't even know her. Its never great to hear bad things about someone whom I admire so much. Updated On: 11/22/04 at 08:55 PM

Posted: 11/22/04 at 8:59pmDon't worry, I'm not going on another rant. But tvboy, if you enjoyed her performance, and have any respect for Ms. Murphy as a professional performer, then you will stop making even those "light-hearted jokes" about her.

I love people who say they aren't going on a rant, BUT...
It's silly to argue over this. Yes, I have the upmost respect for Ms. Murphy as a performer, that however, doesn't change the fact that she missed many, many times. I re-read what people were writing about her... no one was making jabs at her alleged "illness," just that she was away so much.
Thank you, and good night

You are right. They were not making fun of her illness. I just think it is wrong that people should make a joke at a performer's expense when they supposedly have respect for that performer. Just MY opinion. And I am very glad you enjoyed Ms. Murphy's performance.
As for not enjoying Ms. Mugleston's perfromance, I thought she was too rough in the role. If you have a desperate to see why I thought this then please search for the link in which I explained my reasoning.

Posted: 11/22/04 at 9:35pmI agree with Ruth Sherwood, that she was definitely too rough in the role. This is going to sound so mean, but it was more like a truck driver roughness than funny roughness. It was just different. She also seemed more like Eileen's mother than her sister. They are shaped very differently.

Posted: 11/22/04 at 9:37pmTVBoy- Where you see "lighthearted jokes," I see spite. Except in a few cases where they've been, I don't know...clever, and appropriately placed, the absence jokes stopped being funny a long time ago. But hey, that's just me. Evidently you and bg2 find that kind of stuff hysterically funny.

Posted: 11/22/04 at 9:40pmI think we should try having just one day where no one posts any mean or rude comments about Donna Murphy. I think that might be a challenge, because its never happened. Just keep bad thoughts to yourself. Updated On: 11/22/04 at 09:40 PM

anyways, does anyone know when the movie is scheduled to be shown in theatres?

Unless she comes back in another show and has perfect attendance for an extended period of time, people will never drop it. Her name has become a synoym for "frequent absences," which is rather unfortunate. But as you can see, this thread is a month old. So it's not like people have been harping on it every day until now.
Anyway, The Fountain is filming right now, so I guess it could be released anytime from summer to winter of 2005. If it becomes an Oscar-buzz movie, it'll probably be released late in the year.

Posted: 12/27/04 at 9:32pmDarren Aronofsky is an amazing filmmaker. I have been waiting for this film for a while, after the stellar Requiem for a Dream. I wasn't a Rachel Weisz fan until I saw her in The Shape of Things on film. Amazing. Updated On: 12/27/04 at 09:32 PM
