While watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" the thought occured to me that Doris Roberts would make a great Mrs.Banks in the upcoming revival of BAREFOOT IN THE PARK. I remember she was once mentioned to take over the role of Mrs.Meers in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE but I guess those plans fell through.
It would be great timing for her. "Raymond" is coming to an end soon, she'll have a short break before rehearsals begin, and she can start BAREFOOT in the fall. I think it would be superb casting. She has the nosy mother character down pact and I think she would do a great job. I hope she's considered for the role.
You're right. She would be a good choice. But would she come across as stuffy enough?
I'm sure she could do it. It would be a nice change from what she's doing now. Or else she would be playing the exact same character as she does on "Raymond." She's a great actress and I'm sure she'd be great at the role.
Yes...she could do a great job. It's just so hard for me to get Mildred Natwick out of my head at the moment.
I think it's a marvellous idea. Remember she played the uptight Jeanette in Simon's LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS.
