I saw the first preview of this last night. This play by John Patrick Shanley (Four Dogs and a Bone; Danny and the Deep Blue Sea; Oscar-winner for his screenplay for Moonstruck) belongs to the increasingly popular subgenre of "Catholic priest sex abuse scandal story" which has been the subject of several plays, movies and tv shows in the last few years. Shanley doesn't really have any new, fresh takes on this well-worn topic, but the writing is nevertheless very good, exploring the nature of faith and doubt and belief. The chief selling point of this production is the excellent cast -- Tony winners Cherry Jones and Brian O'Byrne, as well as Adriane Lenox and Heather Goldenhersh are all outstanding. Doug Hughes' direction is well-paced and John Lee Beatty's set design is up to his typical high standard. Worth-seeing (90 minutes, no intermission).
Glad I did a search !!! Was waiting for your review, Margo !!
Going Friday night, and cant wait to see this cast !
I am officially a Brian junkie !
Ooh, does anyone remember that Lifetime movie where Cherry Jones and Brooke Shileds were lesbian lovers when Cherry gets sick and Brooke has to fight for custody of their daughter?? AMAZING movie about gay families!!
eewww!!! did you have to mentioned her as lover with Brook Sheilds????
LOL sorry, bronx!! do you not like Brooke?? Even has a straight female, I think Brooke is hot and her love scene with Cherry was SMOKIN'! =)
What's the difference in age between those two?

According IMDB, Cherry Jones is 47 (and will be 48 later this month) and Shields is 39 -- hardly a startling age difference, really.
The made the movie "What Makes A Family in 2001" when they would have been 44 and 36, respectively.

Just got back. Could not agree with you more, Margo. The acting is amazing !!! Cherry Jones is absolutely stellar in this role, and Brian O'Byrne never disappoints. 90 minutes, and it flew. The work is seamless, and the direction was superb. The final "conflict" scene between Mr. Byrne and Ms. Jones was riveting !!
Only sad point for us was at the end.... I have seen standing ovations this year for both "Bklyn" and "Dracula"....yet, including myself and my wife, there were 5 people standing at the end of this show. Ms. Jones definitely deserved a standing ovation for her acting in this piece !!!

Cheery Jones is one of my favorite character actors esspecially in the movie "Signs" with Mel Gibson. She was so loony in that part and i loved it.
I really am in the mood for a good play. I saw his other play with music (A Sailors Song) and HATED IT.
It put my friend to sleep.
It was very dull.
