Aw, yay, I'm really excited to see it again! They'd kind of been hinting about it for awhile now, but still, it's good to know that it's finalized and official.
Yankeefan, did you see the regional production?

Skittles, I didn't see it. All the buzz I've heard was positive. Very positive.
Emcee, would you mind humming (and, in the spirit of the show, tooting) a few bars as to the weaknesses in casting?

Em, we may not agree about Pascal, but Raul is amazing. He seems like a genuinely good person. And has a killer voice. Although he's hard to understand at times, but that's his style. Can't wait to get my hands on the recording.
Yeah! I can't wait to see Raul back on the boards.
Wait, what? If I alluded to thinking that Raúl was the problem, or the imperfection, I'm so sorry. I thought I made it pretty clear, but I think he is *the* reason to see this production. I couldn't find anything wrong with his performance, and even though I'm a big fan, I'll nitpick him sometimes. Funny you bring up articulation, though; I find when he speaks, especially in performance, he enunciates better than most. Sometimes when he sings the words get a little warbled, but it's not a big problem. This performance is going to knock the socks off of the New York City theatre scene, collectively, I guarantee it. Brooding, funny, and sexy as all sin; it's just genius. Bobby is a hard role to make a character you can really care about, and he makes you care a hell of a lot. And yes, he's a good guy, from what I can tell; he has a big heart.
Anyway, Yankeefan -- two actors stuck out as imperfect, for me. One being Barbara Walsh. She's okay, but they could've done better. Raúl's Bobby has a hugely deadpan sense of humor; Barbara Walsh is *all* about the deadpan. The best way I could think to describe them together was like two like magnets -- they're totally repelling each other, and it doesn't work. It's too much of the same thing, and they really don't mesh. It's not bad, but it could be better. The other is the actress playing April; there's supposed to be heat and chemistry in that scene, and it's just not there. She's working with someone who -- and I say this in as much of an... objective way as I can, considering that I am attracted to Raúl -- just exudes sensuality. It works okay, but it could be better -- and to me, that's not the definition of perfection.
Yankeefan, calling a cast "perfect" just based on reviews you've heard is weak. I loved the cast, don't get me wrong, but you should wait until you've seen them for yourself before posting your glowing reviews.

I'll agree he has a great voice, but I don't understand half the words he sings on 30/90 from "Tick Tick Boom." No hard feelings though, I agree he's amazing. It's got such a genuine voice. And skills to back it up.
EDIT: Did Doyle design the set for this show as well?

Oh, me either. There are a lot of TTB lyrics I had to look up.
David Gallo designed the set.

Hm. I wonder why Doyle didn't design this one. I guess he just had a brillant idea for the Sweeney one. Oh well. Can't wait to see more pictures from the production.
Set-wise, there's... not much to see.
I know a member of the cast who, though an Ohio native - has lived and worked in the NY area for many years. She has done tons of Opera and worked in some of the finest regional theatres. This will be her Broadway Debut and it is coming none-too-soon for her. And what the hell would be wrong with them bringing in an entire cast of Ohioans? Do people not get that many of the finest performers on Broadway in the past ten or more years have been graduates of CCM? Ohio turns out some pretty fine talent, if you ask me.
Huh...
I always find Raul's diction to be nothing less than great on all his recordings I have heard. Love his style.
He slurs his lyrics sometimes.
Yay Emcee!
I can't wait to see Raul and Company!
You know Kristin Huffman Redhot? I met her when she was Miss Ohio and at Miss America.
Yaaaaay, awards!

Emcee, I think I can (kinda sorta lol) trust you to be objective here. Do you see a Tony for Raul come next June?
Psssh, objective.
Hm. Well, I think he deserves it for this, even more than he probably did for Taboo. But... I don't really know if I can say that I see him winning yet, because I have no idea who most of his competition is going to be, you know?
I really, really hope he gets it. I think he very well could. I'll be pretty pissed off if he doesn't.

Right, I know exactly what you mean about not knowing the competition. I actually meant to say that in my post. hehe

I just voted. Having seen Company in Cincinnati, I can "objectively" say that Raul deserves this award as does the ensemble. Hopefully the production will receive the critical award for musical.
OK all you Raul fans: Vote now!

I saw this as well, and I honestly think that Raul will be a serious contender for the Tony next year. His performance was exemplary.
As to weak links in the cast, I'll agree with Barbra Walsh, who just tried a little too much to be Elaine Stritch for my taste, although I ended up really liking her in the final scenes. I thought that Elizabeth Stanley (April) had an extremely interesting take, and while she did sort of lack chemistry with Raul, I preferred her April to the usual hopeless ditz that's played exclusively for comedy. There was depth to her shallowness, if that makes any sense. She's not stupid, just kind of disconnected and unable to get interested in anything. It worked really well for the tone of the production. I adored Angel Desai as Marta in most respects, but I would love it if her "Another Hundred People" ends up with more oomph by the time it hits Broadway. The key change was a little disappointing.
I agree, but I don't know if it's her fault or a directional choice -- it just kind of bleeds *right* into the scene that follows, whereas, say, LaChanze's version ends on that huge belt.
