Well last night was the second perf. of the Philly prodution of Dr. Dolittle. And I was there:
Okay, so I walk into this show, and the first thing I notice is our seats. If you've ever been in the Academy of Music before, you kow that side on the ampitheatre front row is a horrible seat. The entire show, I had to lean forward to see anything. But anyway, on to the actual show.
Okay, when I heard about this I thought this musical would have some humour in it. However it really wasn't funny, which dssapointed me a little, but oh well, it happens. So as for the book, music, and lyrics, well I'll just say I wasn't impressed. I mean if the show was geared toward kids,I don't think they would like it, and fraankly I found some of it, well, mediocre. However, there were things I liked about the show. For example, the actors were very talented for the material they had to work with, particualrily Tony Yazbeck as Matthew Mugg (his irish accent was great) and the sets and costumes were all birght, colorful, and fun.
All in all, not a horrendous show, but I wouldn't be paying full price for a ticket.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
