Caught this tonight at their Barrow street location. Holy wow.
This has been a decent season for new plays thus far, in that there's definitely a larger number of them playing uptown than there have been in recent memory. But from a personal perspective I haven't been all that moved. I had conflicting opinions about Slave Play and The Inheritance, and thought The Sound Inside was the closest we've gotten to a Really Great New Play. So prefacing this with all that:
I absolutely adored this play. A slice of the queer experience through the lens of an event shelved away in 1980's Americana. I'm not always a fan of the work that Ars Nova produces, as oftentimes I feel it's quirky without much underlying meaning, but I left utterly moved and extremely satisfied.
