" life ater life after life after life after life after life - a 5 year old could write that stuff."
Well, to be fair, the same could be said of "day after day after day after day after day after day after day..." And we all know who wrote THAT.

Posted: 9/23/04 at 3:23pmMatt - I love ya - but thats like comparing GWB to, well - just about anyone! Day after day after day...well - it lyrically makes sense (in the context of the song)- the life after life after life line is just banal...I just don't understand what makes a person write the way Frank Wildhorn does - its just boring to me. feels like not an ounce of thought went into any of it.

Posted: 9/23/04 at 3:37pmI'm with you, redhot, but I don't know the song, so when you took it out of context, it sounds banal (I can't comment on the rest of the song, as I haven't heard it). I was just illustrating that anything taken out of context can sound banal. Even Sondheim. I can understand your feelings about Wildhorn...somewhat. He does have some songs that I do admire. Most of all, I love "When I Look at You". I think it is quite poignant and beautiful. I also have a fondness for "Sympathy, Tenderness". I don't think everything he writes is great or even good, but he does have a few songs I find genuinely respectable.

Lets just say that, for me, he's no Sondheim and never will be. Its tough when you have such a wonderful writer as your personal hero. You (meaning me) tend to hold everyone in comparison to The Great One....LOL....

Posted: 9/23/04 at 4:48pmOf course I understand! You're right, he's no Sondheim. But then, nobody is. Only Sondheim can be Sondheim and Wildhorn is not similar in any respect, though I can see how some compare Wildhorn to Lloyd Webber. He hasn't had the lasting hits of Webber, but there are similarities in musical styles.
