Come to think of it, I'd also love to play Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls." That just seems like it would be a lot of fun. Also Marguerite in "Scarlet Pimpernel" and Roxie or Velma in "Chicago." I just want to play everything!

I know how you feel BroadwayGal. I would do just about anything to play Eponine. I mean come on--when I was little I would dress up like her and act out Les Miz using my bunk bed as a barricade. Sad? Yes. But God I'd love to play her

Bethany honey, it's not stated anywhere with in the book nor score that Jake has to be black. And besides its a dream role, and I can sing the **** out of that part.

Um, Stevos... you KNOW the plot to Side Show, right? It's pertinent that Jake is black, due to storyline conflictions. A major storyline is that Jake is in love with Violet, but she can't be with him BECAUSE he's black. Thus, colorblind casting is NOT an option. Jake MUST be black and the twins MUST be white, as must Buddy and Terry or the plot makes absolutely no sense. That's like casting myself as Sarah Brown in Ragtime... sure, I can sing the part and for a little white girl, I got me some soul and am often told I sound like a big black girl, but that doesn't change the fact I white (as much as I WISH it did... God, what I'd ****ing give to be black... seriously, although I guess a downer would be that I couldn't play Daisy...).

Seriously, it's a great role, but you must be black to play Jake. It's much like Ragtime or Dreamgirls in that respect.

And yes, I must concur that Jake HAS to be black. Yes it's type-casting, but it's pertinent to the plot. It's actually right there in the song "You Should Be Loved"
