Dreamgirls Funny Girl Reference

Dreamgirls: Effie (Jennifer Hudson) is first seen in an animal print coat, just like Fanny (Barbra Streisand) did in Funny Girl. Is Condon here saying THIS is a performance for the ages, just like Streisand. I've watched both movies this weekend, and the 2 performances have to be the best I've seen in any musical movie, or just plain movie for that matter.
