Posted: 8/6/04 at 2:19amPittsburgh native here. Forget Frenchy! What about Billy Porter. He is the reason i'm going. But Frency performed in Dreamgirls on the West Coast a few months ago. She recieved excellent reviews. It should be an interesting show.

Posted: 8/6/04 at 2:25amBilly Porter was one of the weakest in the dreamgirls concert version. Hopefully he will "get it" this time.

Billy was extremely sick...trust me - i think he's capable of getting "it". he's done the show more times than most people have listened to the cast album
If any of you are planning on seeing Dreamgirls let me know. I'm doing Forever Plaid there - in which the Plaids will be doing an 8-minute pre-show to the Dreamgirls curtain...so if you see Dreamgirls, you will see me! I'd love to meet any of you crazy bww's!
postscript: weakest...hands down Tamara Tunie. she was wretched. and i use that word wisely

Posted: 8/6/04 at 10:05amI really could care less about Frenchie Davis. I am looking forward to seeing Billy Porter and Norm Lewis. Two incredible singers. Plus, I have to show love for the hometown boy - which by the way, I think he sounds pretty good on the Dreamgirls recording. I just think Mr. Porter has an incredible gift - have you heard him sing "Awaiting You" on the Myths and Hymns cd? I want to cry every time. (I'm sappy like that) Makes me sad all the time that he isn't on the recording for Songs For A New World...Oh well, a girl can dream...

WHY?? No offense to you or to your production but having to endure a pre-show advertising another show would be most irritating. Seems like it would spoil the magic of DREAMGIRLS when the "feature" show actually starts. I hope this isn't a new trend.

the great thing about Billy Porter is that he is not only an extraordinary singer. seeing him perform those songs live is what is really amazing - he is a brilliant actor.
the john bucchino song cycle "it's only life" was just one of the times i was fortunate to see billy sing heartfelt music.
morosco - i don't know what to say to that. it's leading up to the show. if you are truly offended by it, don't come
