Dressing Rooms

There seem to be so many different types of dressing rooms. I was just watching videos on Broadway.com and the difference between John Lithgow's room and Gary Beach's is tremendous. The size of the ones at the marquee are huge by comparison. I guess the newer theaters would be able to have larger spaces than the older ones.
Are most rooms on the small side or is it common that the star dressing rooms are giant?

Posted: 5/27/05 at 3:53pmThe Imperial's dressing rooms are pretty small because it's an old theatre, and Heaven forbid they tear down a couple of walls to make the dressing rooms bigger.

Well it is part of NYC's theater history. I wouldn't want them to tear down any walls! I think its important to preserve something so New York City: Broadway!!!!
By the way, they should give theater tours of each theater. Like at 9am ish. Seriously, a good money making device.

Posted: 5/27/05 at 5:45pmDepends on the theater. For example the Gershwin's will be big! The Imperial like stated is an old theater and not the biggest theater so the rooms will be smaller. Also many people need dressing rooms too so maybe they put smaller ones for people to have their own? I know some shows people share.

When he was doing FORUM, Nathan Lane had two adjoining dressing rooms for his exclusive use. When Whoopie took over, she got lonely in such a big space so she turned one of them into a "green room" for the cast and people were dropping in for a chat every night.
Some of the larger theatres on the road have immense dressing rooms with fridges and showers. But most of the older legit houses have `tiny dresing rooms. Some stars have said they owed a debt to Yul Brynner who had it in his KING & I contract that each new dressing room on the road was to be freshly painted and carpeted to his specifications.
