Drew Sarich's Jesus Christ Superstar CD

Just got this CD today. Its a live recording of a concert version of the show from Vienna, sung in English.

WOW, I must say i was totally suprised by this one. I've been listening to JCS for ever and it was getting rather stale for me, but the vocals on this CD are a wonderful change. While the orchestrations in the score remian the same, the singers take several liberties with their orn vocal arrangements. Normally when singers "go off" with their own tunes it bothers me, but these guys have found a way of doing it that complements the score rather than coming off as vain self indulgence.

The star of this ofcourse is Drew's Jesus. I;ve loved him everysince his days in Glöckner (Hunchback) but i;ve not heard him sing anything else. In hunchback i particularly love his rendition of "Made of Stone" and where he hits the high note at the end and his voice does that little crackle, totally swoons.

His version of Gethsmane is totally modern and a delightfull hybrit of traditional "superstar Rock" and modern grunge. his vocalisations are different but work well with the song. Normally i cant stand when the Jesus goes up in those high pitch screams but he does it well.

It was alsi interesting to hear a womana singing the part of Herod, and she did it well, cant remember her name, but if Disney gets Mermaid off the ground, she would definately be a candidate for Ursula.

I recomend this recording to anyone who is a fan of the show, Its a single CD recording, but tney manage to fit on practically every song.

I adore this recording. Another reason to love Drew. I've all but retired my other JCS cast albums, and this is really the only one I listen to now.

Drew is absolutely fantastic! I'll admit that I've never seen JCS, nor have I heard other cast recordings. I do love the Vienna concert, though. Some of the songs are beautiful.
I've also really been getting into Drew's Judas from Amstetten. Someone on the Lestat forum post some great quality songs.

I am a huge fan of Drew too......and i would recomend his solo album "Say It" to any other fans.....its a great c.d although it is a bit hard to find.....i bought it off of footlight.com but unfortunatly is unavailable on that site now.....but his c.d is definatly worth looking for...
