Drew Sarich will now play VALJEAN

I think he looks his age. When he's in makeup he looks really young, but in real life his hairline and natural pallor give him away.
Alex on the other hand...When I met him for the very first time I thought he was about 40. Whoops, lol. He's definitely the erm, most mature looking 27 year old that I've ever seen.
Is Drew going to be able to carry Adam Jacobs without the help of wires or steroids? No. They both look like they weigh the same.

Just because someone weighs the same as you do doesn't mean you can't carry them. When I was about 115 lbs and taking about 5 or 6 hours of martial arts a week, I carried a 200+ lb guy on my back around the studio.

Of course it's not impossible, I was just joking around. But I do think it will be tough on him. He just looks kind of frail and Adam looks like he's built like a minicooper. It's like the equivalent of Alex carrying around Rosie O'donnell, I'm sure that would hurt his back a lot too.
I forsee Drew getting lots of that electroshock accupuncture in the future.

Maybe that's why he's not going on as Valjean right away, he's got to go do some SERIOUS weight-lifting in preparation.
The things we do for our art... here's hoping he can disguise his muscular bulk when they inevitably get round to bringing him on as street waif Eponine...

"It's not without precedent. "
True, the current actor playing Valjean in London, John Owen Jones, is in his mid-30's, and this is the second time he is playing the role. He did it first in his 20's in the touring production.

Yeah, Alexander I thought was a lot older.

Posted: 6/25/07 at 12:31pmI guess this means he won't be doing the tour of "Lestat"?

Hahahahaha!
I'm sorry, that just made my day, thank you, Revolutionary.
(I think that's my new signature, too :))
So, anyway, is it confirmed that Alex is on vaction for his honeymoon, or is that just speculation?

Posted: 6/25/07 at 1:38pmThis "Alex leaving thing" seems so abrupt...not that any of this recent stuff hasn't been, but still.

Posted: 6/25/07 at 2:37pmIm totally thrilled, I just hope he will be in the role come September (since 2 of the shows i was planning to see will be closing by then). seems though that that production seems plaqued by people taking off days.

Justin D:
He'll be in the role at every performance (unless he's sick) until October 21st. So chances are you'll be seeing him in September.

Did you seriously just quote me? ha. Oh gosh, what is this world coming to...
I think I mentioned the Alex/honeymoon thing in another thread, so sorry if that confused anything. That was a speculation on my part, but he did talk to my friend a while ago about that subject when she asked, and he's been engaged for some time now, so when I read that he was taking a leave of absence, I automatically thought, 'wedding and honeymoon'.
I don't know though, I mean I've always thought that Alex was a scene stealer in his other shows, and I still think he's awesome and one of the most talented people... but it seems to me that in Les Miz he was getting prgressively and very noticeably worse in the role as every month went by. It's like he's totally not feeling it anymore or he's not happy with his job or something else is going on, so maybe he wants to leave.
Anyway that was a huge digression. Justin- I think Drew's had a perfect or almost perfect attendance record so far, so I don't think you'll be missing him in September unless you're just extremely unlucky. And I do hope Drew mixes his weight lifting with equal parts pilates and yoga so he doesn't get too bulky. I like his little girl arms.
**EDIT**
Erm, ok, why, in the playbill, theatermania, and bww articles, did they not mention Drew's end date in October? They didn't mention Alex coming back, and they used the words 'suceeds' and 'replacing'...
Oh sh_t.

Posted: 6/25/07 at 5:02pmIt's funny that you're all mentioning his weight. He's sooo much thinner than when he was a few years ago. He was quite chubby when he was doing "Hunchback" in Berlin, but apparently lost it all because the role was so demanding.
