just got back from the Drowsy Chaperone... all i can say is... wow... i haven't had this much fun in the theater in a looong time... the music, while simple is not what makes this show... what i think makes this show is the fact that it basically is a love letter to musical theater... the show being framed is an incredible idea... the MAN IN THE CHAIR (played to perfection by Bob Martin) simply stole the show... his performance from the beginning to the end was hysterical... he could be any of us on this message board... here is a guy who loves musicals and he brings that love of musicals to the audience... that is EVERY one of us here... if i could summarize the show... it's just about one man sharing his love of theater to theaudience... simple as that... the music does just what it's supposed to do (for me that is) which is make you love why theater is so fun to begin with... you sit there and just enjoy it... i don't feel you have to leave the theater humming every tune but when you sit there and enjoy what was written, i know it's a good musical...
and the audience enjoyed every second of the show... the performances were awesome.. standouts also being Sutton Foste, Beth Leavel as the Chaperone and Danny Burstein as Adolpho... the show having no intermission worked well.. and the "intermission" during the show was HILLARIOUS!!! HILLARIOUS!!!!
i truly hope this show makes it to broadway and succeeds... it deserves all the attention... but then again... Los Angeles audiences are so different then New York audiences... who knows... all i know is that this was an awesome night out at the theater
