EQUUS - Question about Burton as Dysart
#1EQUUS - Question about Burton as Dysart
Posted: 2/16/07 at 11:31amDid anyone see Richard Burton as Dysart in EQUUS on Broadway? I am re-reading the play and it is hard for me to picture Burton in this role - which seems to require that the doctor be quite an ordinary middle aged man brought to tremendous anguish by his contact with the patient, Alan. Was Burton able to seem ordinary, and put aside his larger than life persona?

I saw the movie, which was given a short run in MInneapolis after he'd lost the Oscar to Richard Dreyfuss. It's a shame that Burton, such a brilliant actor with such an extraordinary voice, should never have been honored by his peers.
I also recommend you see the movie, because he is terrific, as is Peter Firth.
