It was cheap and I decided I should get it. I shockingly enough have never seen the movie (though I have often been told how dreadful it is) though after hearing the soundtrack... aye curumba!
It sounded like they where going to start breakdancing in the "I Hope I Get It" opening number. Breakdancing with a disco beat...
The poor girls who was singing "At the Ballet" was so bland... it was like they was singing about period pain, then actually something incredibly important and central to their life.
Lets not even talk about "Suprise, Suprise" which would be something I'd expect A-ha (God, I am showing my age) to sing.
"Nothing" is it just me, or the way Diana (well whoever played Diana)... it sounded like the way a first grade teacher would sing to her class... very Romper Roomish. Actually she wasn't really that bad, just the way she sang it made me giggle.
Saying that, I kinda of like how they presented "One". I always thought they sounded way to professional on the OBCR and there just wasn't enough for me to distinguish it from the "One (Finalé)" (yeah a few more bells and whistles in terms of music, but they actually sounded to good in the first "One" all the same in the OBCR).

The orchestration and cuts used for the movie actually differ and are far superior to the ones used on that compact disc.
First off all the songs used on the compact disc are very synthesized whereas in the actual movie evrything sounds better because it's played by an orchestra.
For example, "One" in the movie sounds and is performed so much better (for whatever it was worth) in the actual movie that it was for the soundtrack cd.
I actually like Vicki Fredericks' interpretation of "Sheila" on "At The Ballet".
I have to disagree about Yamil Borges as she gave a very nice performance with her rendition of "Nothing".
Audrey Landers hit "Dance 10; Looks 3" out of the ballpark, I like her version so much better than Pamela Blair's in the OBC recording.
Of course overall the Original Broadway Cast Album will always be the superior version (and even that recording is dated in sound) but the cd recording of the Chorus Line movie is not a fair representation of what was actually used in the film.
