this thought should have been kept to yourself.
I think she's definately got the diva factor going for her
but I don't think she could handle the score
She could look it but I wouldn't want to hear "As If We Never Said Goodbye" or "With One Look" in any way...she sounded kind of terrifying singing R&H's Cinderella at NYCO this year and the Boulevard score is much more vocally demanding.
In the movie doesn't Joe say that Norma is in her fifties?
Can't we keep Diahann Carroll instead?
And don't you think Eartha is shrinking? It would be like the turban coming down the stairs by itself...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
how about Charles Busch?
"I wash my face, then drink beer, then I weep. Say a prayer and induce insincere self-abuse, till I'm fast asleep"- In Trousers
"Joe, can't we have the ashtray?"
I think she'd be absolutely amazing in the role. What a great idea.

Dont forget that Elaine Paige is very tiny herself and would joke that when she came down the stairs all you would see was her turban bobbing down the stairs and not her.
I heard that when Elaine did the show in NY, they cut the banister down so that she wouldn't look so short - I saw her in it and it never occured to me that she was anything but HUGE on stage - such a magnificent personality and wonderful voice - the best I've heard it sung yet.
No. No, no, no NO NO NO.
Rath - I saw Elaine do it and she was amazing - simply perfect in the role.
redhot, I wholeheartedly agree with you !!! Saw Elaine as Norma in London and it was one of the best thatrical experiences of my life !!!! The woman is pure magic !!
Take care
No, redhot - I was responding to the thread title. I'm sure Paige was wonderful.
oh - ok..lol..

With all due respect to Eartha Kitt and her singular talent, she is now about 77 and Norma needs the stamina of a younger person. I also think the range for Norma is too large for Eartha's voice.
Maybe 15-20 years ago. Maybe.

Actually 78 as of last month and with more stamina than many in their 50's.
