First - please forgive my total lack of knowledge on the subject and assume I know nothing about it.
I'm pondering the idea of coming to London for 6 months, and would love to work in a theatre. Not acting, but something like ushering, merchandise, etc..
Is it easy to get employment in the industry? I know London can be difficult to work in in general. Just wondering if anyone has any insight on the topic and could share with me. Replies or private messages are fine.
The answer, honestly, is that it comes and goes. The business is pretty insular, but there's always a rush to hire when a new major show opens (some people get brought back, others don't) and most front of house positions go to drama students or otherwise unemployed actors. It never hurts to put a CV in at a stage door, but don't be surprised to find that people are staying where they are or positions are being filled through internal recommendations.
