I finally caught up with the new cast of 'Hairspray' this week. The ensemble is still energetic, but sadly, Phil Jupitus just lacks the chops for Edna- nowhere near enough personality for one of musical theatre's biggest characters. I don't think it was soft-sell- he just doesn't have the experience to cope.
On the plus side, I saw understudy Penny, who was absolutely fab!
I still miss the runway at the front of the stage, though.
