Broadway Style -it's good to know that I'm not crazy!
Hmmm, I saw the same performance you saw Pinguin and absolutely loved her vocally. I agree that her acting is better in the first act than the second act, but I enjoyed her quite a bit.

I enjoyed her acting in Act 2 a lot... you could really see her attitude changing... by the time she got to the "you wretched little girl!" line she truly was The Wicked Witch of the West. I loved how she was so beautiful and yet slowly became just a bit more "wicked".... her acting changed between the 2 acts... but I thought it was kinda cool... because her character was truly changing. And as for melodramatic... I guess I can KIND OF see where you got that... but I just took it more like she was gaining power and confidence in herself so she her actions were becoming bigger and more forceful.
btw... I don't think any other Elphaba could look so good in green! Eden was truly breathtaking in that dress she wore in the "Wicked Witch of the East" song. She just lit up the stage. And the huge smile she cracked at curtain call was GREAT!
She looked the part more than any other picture I have seen of Ana, Idina, or Sho.
LOL Vincent!! 'bout time :)

I generally liked Eden too (I thought her acting was fine, certainly)...but her singing definitely definitely had me give pause. I don't necessarily think that she's a BAD singer, just not what I expected to hear after hearing previous recordings...
Saw Eden in Wicked over a year ago, and instantly fell in love.
I remember there used to be a link to a clip of her doing "Defying Gravity". Sadly that recording is no longer accesible (sp?)
But, i do miss her rendition of it.

Does anyone have any idea what Eden will do next?
Hopefully something BIG!

I had the Brooklyn recording and thought she sounded a little annoying on it... but then I saw Brooklyn live and was like WTF, she's amazing.. so much better live in my opinion.
Well, after all the skepticism, i finally saw the "wizard and i" video and a defying gravity soundclip sung by eden. She definetly has some rhythm issues. But other than that, she is amazing. No squeak.
I thought she was a bit bland at first, she could hit the notes and all, but her voice didnt really have that special edge. And then i got to the end of Defying Gravity, and i must say, i was blown away. I sat just thinking "wow." Her AAAh at the end was by far the best of any of the elphabas. the whole flying bit was just amazing. The notes are never fuzzy or slightly off like Shoshana or Idina. This coming from one of the biggest Idina fans in Alabama. I mean, i love the way Idina's voice just has character alone, like theres something extra beyond the mere vocals. But Eden sings it well, and thats about it, from what i can tell. And when she gets ahead of the accompaniment, thats just sad. but wow, that voice.

her AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH at the end of Defying is amazingggg. And I love how she SINGS wizard and I before she belts.. it sounds so pretty and different from the rest... and the belting at the end is also amazing, but i love how pretty she sounds before she goes into "and i'll stand there with the wizaaaaaaaaaaard doing Things ive never felllt"
I bought tickets to the Broadway production back in June of 2004 (when she was the standby) knowing that she was performing and after seeing Idina several times. I thought she was a power-house of talent. She's got chops in every aspect of her craft. Still one of the best performances I have seen on a Broadway stage. I wish I could see her in SF. I'm sure she's only grown and improved in the role since last year!
well...
i think she likes to sing the word marijuana... a lot.
but i do like her as well.
