Whoo! Same here! I didn't see Eden in Wicked, but from the cast recording of Brooklyn, she screams her head off.

I have to say, I've been reading a lot of reviews of Christina Aguilera's new album as of late. I know, as you're reading this, you're saying, "What the hell does this have to do with anything?" However, it annoys me, because I wonder how much about vocal performance these "critics" actually know? They throw around terms such as "powerhouse," and "huge belt," so it's clear that they have no knowledge of proper singing, because if ANYONE screams, it would be that girl. So, moving on...

Yes, everyone is entitled to opinions, I'll never argue that. However, if someone has actually studied something, they may know more about the technical aspects. So, I just hate when I read some harsh things on this board, because I wonder how much knowledge these people have, of if it's just a matter of something not being for someone else. I, after seeing Eden Espinosa, think she's quite a talented young woman. Her voice, despite what MANY people think, is FAR from a scream. After doing "Brooklyn" for over a year (tryouts and Broadawy run combined) her stint as Idina's standby, her run in SF, and now her run on Broadway, her voice would have given out LOOOONG ago if she was screaming. It sounds like a scream on the Brooklyn cast album, simply because the writer put a note FAR too high on the scale for someone to belt WITHOUT it sounding like a scream. That being said, again, if she was screaming, her voice would have been GONE.
For example, I can't stand Stephanie J Blocks take on Elphaba. She does so many things that annoy the crap out of me. That's not to say she isn't a talented woman, she clearly is. She just doesn't do it for me.

Don't people know Idina used a pitchfinder in Wicked? She can't really sing that good. She's my #2. And she can't act. Eden can sing and belt, she has amazing acting capabilities, and she dances good. But Elphie doesn't dance too much. Eden's my #1 and I saw Steph in L.A. She's my #3.

If she is your number 2, I would hate to hear your critique of Stephanie's performance. Apparently Idina does nothing "good" in your opinion.

Idina cant ACT?? wow... I mean everyone's entitled to their opinions.. I guess we just have very, VERY different opinions as to whats good acting. haha. Because for me, its idina's spectacular acting that MAKES her #1. Granted I adore her voice, but a LOT of people can sing those songs really really well. In fact, if you were goingg to go PURELY on voice, I'd proob say I think maybe shoshana's the best singer. Like, if they were to make a radio-friendly version of DG, shoshana would be a very good choice for them to pick. However, within the context of the SHOW, shoshana's one of my least favorites (nothing against sho fans, she seems awesome, I just dontt love her in this particular show). And thats because I feel like she had a very diffferent characterization of elphie, and it just did not work for the part. When she played elphie, her acting was such that I didn't really feel for her as much as I feel for idina's elphie. Its not necasserily that shes a bad actress, its just that she didn't play it in a way that I like. Idina, however, could be having her most off day EVER vocally, and STILL give me major chills durring defying gravity or wizard and I. Because the reason I feel a connection to her elphie has nothing whatsoever to do with her voice. Its the fact that she's incredibly open, vulnerable, and honest in her performance. To me, it doesn't even feel like she's acting at ALL- it feels like she just... IS elphie, for those 3 hours or whatever that she's on that stage. Everything about her as elphie is just so... natural. And see, I feel like Eden's kind of recaptured that. Shes a very REAL actress to, and nothing in her performances ever really feel forced like they sometimes did with Sho. So yeah.. THATS why I love idina and eden... in the end, it really has nothing to do with singing :) if you dont FEEL for the character, they could be the best SINGER in the world, but it wont have nearly the same effect on you.

I've only seen Eden in the role, so I can't compare her to any of the others. I enjoyed her performance, but I cannot judge her the best, greatest, etc since I have no one to compare her with. I have heard the OCR, but I still can't compare styles based upon that.

It's coming to the Tampa Bay area sometime in the future, so maybe I can catch it here.
