HOw much of this story is based in fact?
Also, I don't quite understand why the company wanted Stritch out of the show. Because she was drunk, or because she got better reviews? Or because she did the guffaw at the end of Marge Champion's scene? Stritch sort of leaves that part out. Was she really too drunk to perform, or were they just jelous of her?

I think it was because she upstaged Marge and this upset Marge and the company ended up turning on Elaine.
But that's just my fuzzy memory of the story.

Or it's one of the many anecdotes that Mme. Stritch took creative license with in her show. I love her dearly, but take many of her stories with a grain of salt.
Well, I don't think all of those professional ladies went to the producer and said, "It's either her or us!" just because they didn't like her very much. She must have been pretty damn disruptive, either on stage or off (or both), for ALL them to have gone to such extreme measures.
I definitely don't think we got the full story there.
But it was a damn funny "story," nonetheless!
