Just wondering if I am the only one that thinks Elton is crazy for trying to Tackle the Rice series telling the Tales of the Vampire Lestat? I just don't see why heis willing to take a chance on a vampire musical when None have worked before... Oh well I guess if anyone can do it....

Posted: 5/24/03 at 6:30pmI know what you mean. Especially so soon after Dance of the Vampires too. Mind you, when it opens it will be incredibly high profile thanks to Elton John being behind it, much more so than DOTV..(?). He doesn't really have a fan base as such, not like other composers.

I am hoping that Elton's new musical "The Vampire Lestat" will be a big success! I have always loved the movie "Interview With The Vampire", and in terms of traditional horror movies, I have always been partial to vampires. I felt bad when Dance Of The Vampires, I felt that I deserved a longer run, but anyways. Elton John had a great success with "Aida", so hopefully he will be able to pull this off! There are a lot of elements to Anne Rice's novels, and I am hopeful that the show will be able to capture each of those elements musically! I am very excited about it, and hope that it will be a great success!!!

Posted: 5/24/03 at 8:50pmno one get mad at me for saying this... as much as I adore the score to AIDA... i do however feel all of Sir Elton John's music sounds similar lol...his own personal songs,lion king and aida. I have a lot of faith he will write some excellent new material but, I just don't know how another vampire show will do. Parents seem to afraid to take their children to see it. I think he has ability, and Sammy his music will be more traditional he said, which is another reason it might fail, since I don't he will be successfull with his first non pop sounding try. I can see it being good if it is all more of an operetta, I don't think that the series will fit together neatily through song and book... And the subject matter is just harsh... Oh well... If he does in deed fail, all great composers have their failings...Yet I can't say he is great just yet...
