Emcee in "Cabaret", make-up question

A Make-up Question for anyone who has played the Emcee or been part of a Cabaret production ...

What sort of make-up was used to make the emcee pale? How did you keep it from getting all over everything (incl. the costumes)?

I was thinking that simply using clown white would be a disaster.

Any ideas/info will be much appreciated.

re: Emcee in 'Cabaret', make-up question

I would recommend Ben Nye's Fairest. It's a great color that has grey undertones to it. It reminds me of the black and white make up that Joan Allen uses in PLEASANTVILLE once she has colorized. Apply a thin layer and powder the hell out of your face with translucent powder. I recommend pressing the powder in and then brushing powder on. It really helps set the make up. When I played the Emcee I was half naked throughout the show so I was airbrushed with a very pale color from head to toe.
