I am looking forward to seeing CHITTY, this time soaring into the skies of Manhattan

I saw the London production several times when it first opened. Michael Ball and Emma Williams were not only fabulous singers but also brought such warmth and charm into the roles of Caractacus and Truly. Nichola McCauliffe who played the Baroness was such a riot ( the role is great for anyone with a comedic flair), Anton Rogers was very endearing as Grandpa, and nobody can be scarier than Richard O'Brien in the role of the Childcatcher. And of course, the Brit accents are all authentic ... Give the London cast recording a try -- it is great!

This time, I am excited to see how well CHITTY has flown across the pond ( no jet lags or dizzy lurches?). I would like to see how Raul, Marc, and the rest have put on their stamp on this beloved children's tale of a magical car, from the pen of the man who immortalized James Bond, Ian Fleming !

Thanks, Emcee. I don't have anything to really add, but I'm very glad you enjoyed it and I agree with your assessment of what the critics will probably think. Not a great show when picked apart, but it does a good job of making you feel like a kid again, and in achieving that goal it is a good musical.

As I have been saying on this and many other threads, some members of our community and many of the theater critics have been elitists. They pan anything which they believe is not genius or cutting edge. There must be room on Bway for all tastes. Chitty is a wonderful show for people who like to go to theater for catchy tunes, dazzling sets, no political messages, and just have fun! Hopefully, Chitty will follow along the lines of Beauty & The Beast and not Passion as far as longevity is concerned.

It's kind of strange. I've just gotten my hands on the London CD, and as much as I had been kind of lukewarm at first, I can't stop listening to it. Every time I re-live a moment from the show, I can't help but smile. I have a feeling a lot of that is due to the presence of Mr. Esparza IN the show, as he is obviously something of immense enjoyability, but I really did love it.

I had to take this review and sort of use it as the backbone for a really important school-related review piece I'm doing, and I've edited the poor thing to death. It's now something like a seven page long monster, double spaced with two entire pages on Raul. But, because of how long I've worked on it for, it's caused me to spend the past few days really thinking the show over, and able to fully admit that I did absolutley love it. It's just a good time.
