A little good faith and humor go a long way.

I can't win, apparently. Today I'm "lazy," but on Friday I was "too nice" and blessed with an overactive imagination.

I'm a professional actor--as I infer you are as well, dd. There is simply a difference of interpretation here and that's that. I simply didn't have any of those problems you did with Rath's post. The kind of advice she sought seemed supplementary to me--tips IN ADDITION to studying the pieces, not in lieu of. Form, not content. I doubt a genuinely lazy person would even bother preparing for a callback, let alone seek advice for how to best maximize her time.

eta: CONGRATS, Rath! So pleased to hear. Proof is in the pudding, hmm? re: Emergency Audition Advice Updated On: 1/24/05 at 05:18 PM

I'm not going to respond to your statements about my laziness, etc., because you don't know my situation. However, I was eventually cast as an offstage singer - what I signed up for in the first place - which is why I was so thrown by having to learn monologues. I am NOT the right type for any of the women - right in between ages and voice parts. As it happens, they were remiss in sending me the monologues. They sent a mass email to all the women called back, and neglected to let the singers know that they would not have to read.

ddtruit..
Thank you for breathing some reality into this board.

One thing that I find so appaling here on BWW is when people come here asking for song, monologues, storylines, plots, characters and such and it is OBVIOUS that they have not taken the time to do the ground work themselves. They EXPECT everyone else here to supply them with answers and, in some cases, actual sheet music.

What lazy jerks.

Rat..you claim to be a professional, having worked on the Grey revival. The fact that you came here and expect other people to do the work for you is stupid and insulting. You claim that it's a hobby..fine. But if you wern't so interested, then you would have not posted all these messages begging for help.

The sad thing about this is that you actually got cast. Probably over someone who actually PREPARED for the call backs. I guess this business isn't fair after all.

Read my post again, Tuttle - I signed up for offstage singing and nothing else. To be given two monologues to learn the day of the callback threw me - and as it turned out, they weren't supposed to give them to me anyway. And I "worked" on the Grey revival, yes - in the producer's office. I am NOT a professional performer.

I wanted to know how to handle a situation of very little preparation time for something I had not signed up for - I was not asking anyone to learn the pieces for me. I am very new to the audition process - this was my second audition. But the one thing I HAVE learned from this is not to come here for advice. It's not worth the hassle.

Sorry that reading comprehension is not your strong suit. Go pick on someone else. You've become tiresome.

Right - I didn't give a ton of info because I didn't really have time to - then you kept asking me for more and more and I was trying to give it to you.

Again, there is a difference between taking a minute or two to read and post and taking ten minutes at a time to really look at a monologue. I had them on my computer screen and whenever I could, I was looking at them, but I knew I couldn't give them the time I wanted to. Sometimes people with more experience can say one thing that just clicks and helps a lot. That's all I was looking for. It turned into something much bigger and frankly, much more time-wasting.

Jesus F-ing Christ, the sanctimoniousness on this board is just exhausting.

"Many of the advice offered seemed to be coming from less than serious actors as well."

Well--aside from my issue with the grammar in that sentence--I fail to understand why it's necessary to malign, patronize, or make incorrect assumptions about those posters who did choose to offer advice. They did, you didn't. There are differences of opinion and interpretation, and the school-marm attitude is really tiresome.

(And I notice that some of these same posters attacking Rath have no problem offering comparable advice to other advice-seeking posters on other threads. Huh!)

Oh, and Mr. T, stupidity LASTS forever, not last forever.

ok, from my standpoint-

Rath- the original issue dd had with you was that it is ok to ask for audition advice, but there are MILLIONS of shows out there you could be auditioning for. You didn't specify. That was her issue in the beginning, from my standpoint, and If i had seen this earlier, I would have been annoyed too.

Issue #2 became that you posted ALOT in the short amount of time you had to prepare for the Cabaret audition. But of course, we can't help you, cause we didn't know it was CABARET, did we, it could very well have been the female version of the DONKEY SHOW, and in that case, my only advice is to, well.... I dunno, but I liked the juxtaposition there, so HAH! Or it could have been Carousel, where we would have said sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" or something LIKE it. If you call 911 in an emergency, you don't say "I have an emergency! HELP!" You gotta give the dispatcher more info. In the end, the 23 posts indicate that you spent some time on here that could have been done peparing with the monologues. If I had my CCM audition tomorrow (although I'm not auditioning this year), you can bet your ass I would not be posting 23 times.
