I just got back from seeing Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley in concert at The Town Hall as part of the 2nd Broadway Cabaret Festival. I decided to go at the last minute. I got my ticket this afternoon and got a seat in the loge all the way on the side but the view was great.
The concert was great. These two women work so well together.
Act 1:
Two's Company
Little Me
I'd Rather Wake Up By Myself (Emily)
Cigarette Dream (Alice)
Last Smoker in America (Alice)
Sleepy Man (Emily)
I Miss the Mountains (Alice)
No One is Alone (Emily)
Every Day a Little Death
Broadway Baby (Alice)
Sisters/Ohio
Act 2
Trouble
Poor Unfortunate Soul (Emily)
You Have to Be There (Alice)
Come Up And See Me Sometime (Emily)
Past My Prime
Lazy Afternoon (Emily)
She's Gone (Alice)
Who Will Love Me As I Am?
I Will Never Leave You
Emily did a great job on Poor Unfortunate Soul. I'm not sure if she played Ursula in the recent reading of "The Little Mermaid" but she would be great. Alice was funny with her comment when she came out at the end of the song "F***ing Amazing!!!" Emily really got the best applause of the night but Alice did great on the next song which was by the guys from Abba.
The whole concert was great. Emily told a story that she told a few weeks ago at Seth Rudestsky's book celebration at Ars Nova about coming back to Side Show after missing a few performances and they had a 20 second costume change but the understudy's costume was left for her and was way too small. The chorus boys did the opening like 5 times until the costumer got the right costume and then they rushed into place so quickly they didn't realize that they were in the wrong places. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but when you are playing conjoined twins, it tends to be noticeable if you suddenly switch places.
The concert was recorded for a CD release which should be great.
Worth the last minute trip in.

Posted: 10/21/06 at 11:51pmI read about that concert and that they would sing a couple of songs from Björn and Bennys musical Kristina. What were the name of those songs?

Posted: 10/22/06 at 12:07amAlice sang that song. But, yeah, it was amazing. I had a spectacular time. Everything was incredible. Alice's Broadway Baby was spectacular! Afterwards, I met both and got tons of autographs, and I spoke to Alice for a while and....She was a copy of her band's brand new c.d. that has not yet been realized. Outtasite, in the whole press release kit and everything, and she only had one, and she gave it to me, cause I asked her to sign the first one and she was great! I will give more of a review and post pics tomorrow, but just WOW! what a night!

Outtasite *has* been released. You can purchase a copy through CD Baby, Pandora.com, or buy it on iTunes. I'm pretty sure you gotta get the press kit from Alice herself, though. The postcard is worth it in itself.

Well even if it has been released, I am proud to say that Alice hand-gave me her press kit of it! So
