DRG wanted to record all of the Encores! shoes, and did a season and a half (PAL JOEY, CALL ME MADAM, TENDERLOIN, OUT OF THIS WORLD, BABES IN ARMS). They didn't sell well, so they abandoned the venture.
Out of the DRG Encores! recordings, PAL JOEY is arguably the best of the bunch. The cast is uniformly great, and Fisher's orchestra is hot.
In my opinion, however, the best Encores! recording that exists (to date) is THE NEW MOON. I usually can't stand operetta, but this recording is really, really special. I can't take it off my CD player.
I'd agree that Pal Joey is the best of the DRG recordings, but Fisher is such a square conductor, I never find that his orchestra catches much fire. They play dutifully, rather than with joy or excitement.
sad DRG abandoned the venture. i would have loved to have "Promises, Promises" recorded.

There are some of us who are still hoping that someone will someday record "Sweet Adeline". The comic song "My Husband's First Wife" needs to be recorded.

In addition to the ones mentioned, Ziegfeld Follies of 1936 was also recorded and released. (Technically you could say that the Wonderful Town and Chicago revivals are Encores shows).
