Encores' The Apple Tree 5/12

I was sitting in the Rear Mezz of The City Centre last night, so I was prepared for the sound to be like listening thru cotton-stuffed ears.
Politics aside, re Kristin Chenoweth, I am constantly amazed at her vocal technique & comic timing. I feel as tho she's completely in control, yet willing to walk the tight rope & take calculated risks. The evening was a pure delight. I especially enjoyed "Gorgeous".
What also aided in my enjoyment of the evening was reading Peter Filichia's articles on theatermania.com. They contain a myriad of spoilers, so don't read them if you don't want to know what's going to happen in advance. I've linked the 1st article.
I found that I enjoyed all 3 acts equally with different aspects highlighting each one.
It was good to see Malcolm Gets, & w/o wishing to insult him, I wonder if he's suffering from a cold or allergies. Having seen him a few times before, I seem to notice he was pacing himself very carefully.
Michael Cerveris' snake was quite an acting choice feat for me. I thought it quite smart to asperate the "s"'s. I was pleased with his ability to characterize his voice differently for ea. act.
I'm completely willing to forgive most shortcomings due to the Encores'(& all enterprises w/similar rehearsal time constraints) lack of time to rehearse. I'm just happy they're able to get these shows on. Period.
Wish I could go back to see it again!
