How about Forever Tango pulls the plug & vows never to come to Broadway again ?
Forever Tango is closing November 28th.
I heard it was a great show.
I'm very surprised it ran this long because the attendance was/is VERY low.

Isn't it a limited engagement? Somehow, that rings a bell...
I don't understand all of this business about wanting to pull the plug on shows and put actors and musicians out of work before it's time foe the show to end. First it was "Phantom" and now "Forever Tango". It's not a bad show, as a matter of fact it was pretty darn good when I saw it last Saturday afternoon and it IS a limited engagement. There are enough theatres out there to accommodate any new show that wants to come to Broadway and don't worry, the Shubert will be available very soon.

FT is a limited engagement, non-equity show; it can afford to have low attendance and stay open. Spamalot doesn't start loading in till late December/early January if I remember correctly. You can't have one of the main houses on Broadway (and the main house of the Shubert Org) empty for the 7 months from when Gypsy closed to when Spamalot comes in. How bad for business would that be?
It's a great show and the cast is very talented, but hence the name, you just really need to love tango to truly enjoy it.

So..this is a non Equity cast? How has Equity stayed quite on this one and not shut it down?
I understand the cast is mainly foreigners, but it was a long run at a Broadway house?
"Forever Tango" ran from July 20th to August 29th and then took a break. It opened again on September 21st and will run until November 28th.
I cannot call this a Broadway show. Yes, it's playing at a Broadway theatre and the Shuberts are collecting rent but this is a dance show. It has no story to speak of and I really can't see Equity having a problem with it.

It's not a normal show, folks. If you're into tango, you'll like it, but otherwise I guess you won't see the difference between the dances. As someone already posted, this is just a show that happens to be playing in a Broadway house. There's room for all kinds of performing arts. And in the late summer and early fall, when plenty of theaters are still empty and the big autumn flood of openings hasn't started, why shouldn't a theater find another kind of show to occupy itself?
Ummm..if it's playing a BROADWAY house, then it is a BROADWAY show.
As I said, is it under a special contact? I heard nothing about it from Equity.
So...If Networks opens their "Oklahoma" at the same theater, are you telling me Equity wouldn't get in their usual tizzy.

It is most definitely a non-eq show under special contract.

Are there a lot of world-class tango dancers in Equity? It's a different story with dance. I'm sure Forever Tango is under some other kind of union contract. Isn't Movin' Out non-Equity, as well, or am I completely deluded?

Reminds me of CONTACT, MOVIN' OUT, BLACK AND BLUE, etc. I wouldn't call those Broadway shows either but somehow they are. (And yes, I'm still furious that CONTACT won Best Musical.)
