#2Equivocation tonight?
Posted: 2/18/10 at 10:26amI saw it on Saturday. I found it to be an interesting concept and certainly well-acted, but it could use some shaving off of its run time. It certainly won't be for everyone.

#4Equivocation tonight?
Posted: 2/18/10 at 2:22pmAbout 2 hours and 30 minutes, I think. I heard it was well over 3 hours in previous productions.

Posted: 2/19/10 at 2:07amJust to let you know, it's now running 2:20. That's still about 15 minutes too long in my opinion.

Posted: 2/19/10 at 10:58amJust out of curiosity, do you feel the the 2:20 is too long because they ran out of material or kept extraneous material, or do you feel 2:20 is too long for plays in general? I'm not being catty, I'm genuinely interested because I have a play going up soon (off-off-B'way), coincidentally about Shakespeare's acting troupe shortly after his retirement. It runs about 2:20 with an intermission now and folks have suggested that that's too long for a play (any play) without having seen it. Looking at running times of plays vs. musicals, I do see a trend of plays getting shorter and shorter yet some people complain about musicals running less than 2:30. I guess, to me, I see it as delivering a good story as long as it needs to be, and hopefully the audience may feel they got their money's worth. Broadway play ticket prices for minutes seem like kind of a rip off to me. What do you guys think about lengths?

I've seen great plays that were three hours long (Cymbeline and Macbeth come to mind), and great musicals that were 90 minutes long.
It's not that 2:20 is too long for a play to run, it just felt like Equivocation was dragging in several parts.
