Does Dysart take Alan out of his mysery, following his blinding Nugget?

Yes, it is implied in Dysart's final monolouge that he will turn Alan *normal*, set him on his nice little scooter out into the world, and he (Alan) will no longer love horses as he now does. However, Dysart is now the one ailing, haunted by Equus as seen in the play's amazing, final line, "There is now, in my mouth, this sharp chain. And it never comes out." However, you never actually see this healing, but it is pretty much sure that he will do it.
what a brilliant play. i was just reminded this when i had to write a paper for an NYU summer program
Yes, it is by far my favorite Shaffer play, and stays with you for long after you step out of the theatre. It was actually the first play I ever saw live, and I can still remember every minute of it.
