I have read a few of the threads on Equus from last nights performance and I just want to contradict a few things.

The actors are still in previews (the second one to be exact)so they are working out the kinks of the show. That being said what was on stage last night was nothing short of impressive theatre. Not very far into it you begin to feel for Alan and completely forget that it is Daniel Radcliff on stage. This show is not in any way on the surface. You have to pay attention and delve deep into the layers and story line that Peter Shaffer has created.
Daniel Radcliff was absolutly amazing to witness and I look forward to future engagements of him on Broadway. Richard Griffiths was supurb as usual. Although he rushed a few of his monologues I belive he is still working out his character.

If you have the chance please go see this show. It is absolutly amazing!

Boy, who knew a show with such a large advance would send out shills because of 1 negative posting?

You can't have it both ways. You say the actors are still in previews and working out the kinks...yet they are already amazing. Plus it's not like they're new to the material. Richard and Daniel both did this production in London and shouldn't be as shaky as they are with the material.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Having seen the show Friday night, I can weigh in with cred. The actors are well prepared for the show but the production was less than perfect. There were annoying glitches with the sound system; it was too low at times and that awful tech beeping when there's interference happened 4 or 5 times. My daughter does both stage and film work and attended with me Friday. She said it happens when two mics are too close, such as when Alan and Jill kissed. I just know that not all the dialogue was audible and this is an entirely dialogue driven play. Also, the fact that some audience members feel that the cell phone off rule does not apply to them is beyond frustrating. I'm glad I wasn't sitting next to the giggling girls I heard about, but the cell phones I heard were probably just as bad.

The staging was very well done. The stills from the London production show Dan Radcliff posing with a real horse, so I was curious to see how this would be staged. I was very impressed. I would never have wanted to sit up behind the action as those up there looked very uncomfortable all evening.

I would see it again if I didn't live 2+ hours from the city. It's not about the famous faces or the nudity. It's all about a great play with great actors and a director with a flair for great staging and exacting fine performances.

I think it was swell of Mrs. Radcliff to join our little online community to post this thread!

WELCOME!
